Gratitude to Bring 100% Organic Cuisine and Craft Cocktails to Newport Beach

Café Gratitude, the iconic 100% organic and plant-based restaurant, is giving its consciously-sourced and thoughtfully-prepared cuisine a fresh face with the debut of Gratitude, a new iteration of the restaurant opening in Newport Beach on Wednesday, February 10th.

Gratitude will offer a distinct dining experience from its sister locations in Los Angeles and San Diego with new seasonally-driven dishes from Chef Dreux Ellis, and a full, 100% organic beverage program crafted by Jason Eisner, the celebrated Beverage Director at Café Gratitude’s Mexican counterpart, Gracias Madre in West Hollywood.

Gratitude, which will be one of the first tenants in the multi-use destination, Castaway Commons at 1617 Westcliff Drive, will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, daily, with a separate Gratitude To-Go outpost for diners on the run.

“We look forward to shaking things up with dishes and cocktails crafted specifically for our new neighbors in Newport.”

While Gratitude is designed to offer a more upscale experience for guests, the Newport Beach destination will share the philosophy of all Café Gratitude restaurants to serve food that respects both the diner and the environment.

The foundation of Chef Ellis’ produce-driven menu is rooted in the bounty of local farmers markets and original Café Gratitude Founders Matthews & Terces Engelhart’s Be Love Farm in Vacaville.

Winter ingredients will be woven into new dinner items including “Small Plates” like Brussels Sprouts Sliders with a maple-miso glaze; and Curried Garnet Yam & Cauliflower Griddle Cakes with red pepper harissa; as well as “Appetizers” like the Roasted Butternut Squash & Lacinato Kale Salad.

Large plates will be similarly reflective of seasonal finds with Chef Ellis’ Handcrafted Truffle Ravioli Pasta with braised mushrooms, and Baked Eggplant Polpette with sun-dried tomato marinara.

The new Gratitude-specific additions will be joined by beloved Café Gratitude classics that will be available on the restaurant’s “All Day” menu.

Whole grain bowls like the Sushi Bowl with blackened tempeh, shredded kale, avocado, and sesame wasabi dressing over sprouted grains; and the Indian Curry Bowl with curried red lentil dal and coconut mint chutney; will be joined by Sandwiches like the Double Cheeseburger with two housemade black bean patties, and Tempeh Reuben with spicy red sauerkraut.

Breakfast offerings will include gluten-free pastries like Cinnamon Rolls and Sweet & Savory Scones, as well as larger entrees like Buckwheat Flax Pancakes with cashew whipped cream, and a Breakfast Burrito Mojado with roasted heirloom potatoes.

The cocktail program from Eisner will spotlight organic spirits expressed in classic and newfangled cocktails crafted with housemade bitters, infusions and shrubs.

The Gratitude Caipirinha pairs Brazilian rum with pressed lime juice and a housemade rock candy stick garnish, a Classic Martini will be available “dirty” with the addition of a “vegan blue cheese” stuffed-olive and house brine, and a Smoked Old Fashioned, smoked in a decanter with cherry wood, partners bourbon with housemade provincial cola and aromatic bitters.

Cold-pressed juice cocktails and seasonally-inspired libations will be among the inventive new offerings crafted for Gratitude’s introductory craft spirit program.

A curated selection of organic wine and beer will round out the beverage program.

Like the Los Angeles and San Diego restaurants, the interior design of Gratitude was imagined by the leadership at Love Serve Remember in conjunction with Designer Wendy Haworth.

The bright 4,300 space features soothing neutral tones and custom decor and lighting that offers an organic transition from casual daytime lunches and breakfasts to the more experiential evening scene.

White washed brick walls, exposed oak beams and pillars, and lush plants, create a spa-like environment that is juxtaposed against the dramatic landscape of the central bar, ensconced in geometric grey and white tiles and lined with custom barstools that are reminiscent of vintage French design.

A separate 1,200 square-foot patio is similarly outfitted with geometric patterned cement tiles, as well as handmade Morocco tiled tables.

Upon the opening on Wednesday, February 10th, an adjacent 200-square-foot Gratitude To-Go space will also begin offering  grab-and-go items like freshly pressed organic juices, as well as health & wellness retail items from The Detox Market.
