With the successful restart of musical performances at Garden Grove’s historic GEM THEATRE underscored by rave reviews of EVITA, One More Productions – one of Southern California’s leading musical theater companies – is now pleased to present GYPSY. THE GEM is located at 12852 Main Street in Garden Grove.
GYPSY is a musical loosely based on the 1957 memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, the famous striptease artist, and focuses on her mother, Rose, whose name has become synonymous with “the ultimate show business mother.”
It follows the dreams and efforts of Rose to raise two daughters to perform onstage and casts an affectionate eye on the hardships of show business life.
GYPSY has been referred to as the greatest American musical by numerous critics and writers. The musical contains many songs that became popular standards, including Everything’s Coming up Roses, Together (Wherever We Go), Small World, Some People, Let Me Entertain You, All I Need Is the Girl, and Rose’s Turn.
It is frequently considered one of the crowning achievements of the mid-20th century’s conventional musical theater art form.
The book was by Arthur Laurents, with music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
One More Productions co-founder Damien Lorton is the show’s director and musical director. Orange County performers Beth Hansen Nicole Cassesso lead the cast. Hansen stars as Mama Rose, with Cassesso, who is a co-founder of One More Productions and its executive director, playing the role of Louise.
General admission tickets are $25 each, $20 for seniors 60 and over, and $15 for children 12 years old and under.
Also, $10 student rush tickets are available for Thursday and Friday performances only.
