On January 26, Girl Scouts across Orange County began a time honored annual tradition, selling the nation’s favorite cookies to friends and neighbors.
Excitement around this year’s cookie sale is particularly high. Girl Scouts of Orange County is unveiling two brand new cookies: Cranberry Citrus Crisps and Orange County is one of just 20 councils nationwide that are running the pilot of the Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Shortbread.
Leading up to National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend, Girl Scouts of America hosted a Twitter party in partnership with bloggers and using it as an opportunity to increase awareness about the skills girls develop through the cookie program.
The Twitter Party was hosted by Mom it Forward on Feb 5 using these hashtags: #GNO (Girls Night Out) and #cookieboss as well as@GirlScoutsOC.
“The Girl Scout Cookie Program provides girls with the opportunity to develop critical life skills that will help them become leaders in their own lives, leaders in business, and leaders in our community. They are learning how to set and achieve goals, deciding with their troop how they will use their cookie proceeds, learning how to make change and set a budget and how to relate to customers. These activities translate directly into skills that will help girls live their best lives,” said Nancy Nygren, CEO of Girl Scouts of Orange County.
In addition, Girl Scouts are partnering with El Pollo Loco, Ruby’s Diner, Mimi’s Café and Red Robin restaurants, who will hosted Girl Scout Cookie Booth sales outside of select restaurants on Feb 7 and 8 (a whole week before booth sales start throughout OC!).
